Fire Apparatus Maintenance Specialist

The Town of Westwood is seeking a Fire Apparatus Maintenance Specialist to perform skilled maintenance and repair work on all Fire Department equipment and vehicles, and to make recommendations regarding purchase and repairs. The Fire Apparatus Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Duties include but are not limited to: Sets up and maintains a schedule of preventive maintenance for department vehicles and equipment. Sets up and maintains maintenance and repair records for all department vehicles and equipment. Lubricates, adjusts, repairs and maintains department vehicles as required for proper operation of such emergency vehicles. Performs a wide variety of repairs, including engine tune-ups, vehicle drive lines, brake systems, electrical systems, body hardware, exhaust systems, steering systems, cooling systems, climatic systems, suspension systems, etc. Performs repairs and maintenance on fire fighting hardware and emergency extrication equipment. Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates. Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

Qualifications and experience: Allied heavy vehicle maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Emergency Vehicle Technician Certifications strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods and techniques involved in the repair and maintenance of gasoline- and diesel-powered motor vehicles and equipment; working knowledge of welding, repair of electrical systems, auto mechanics, body work and refinishing. Knowledge of safe repair practices. Ability to use standard and special motor mechanic's tools. Ability to use hand tools, power tools and computerized maintenance systems. Massachusetts Class B, CDL motor vehicle operator's license required.

Salary and benefits: Part-time, flexible schedule, $31.00 - 39.00 per hour; 12 – 20 hours per week.
