This position is responsible for fire prevention, inspection, and training. Participates by reviewing and commenting on (DRC) Development Review Committee Plans for the City of Coconut Creek. Hours of Work: Monday through Thursday, 7:00a.m. – 6:00p.m.; Days and hours are subject to change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs Fire Inspections and plan review, and assists with fire investigations.
Performs periodic fire inspections as required by code.
Performs fire prevention duties, including training and public education.
Performs certificate of occupancy and occupational license inspections.
Re-inspects all failed inspections.
Conducts annual fire inspections on all commercial and multi-residential buildings.
Reviews DRC and building plans.
Maintains fire inspection files and completes all required reports and paperwork.
Assists with pre-fire planning.
Periodically checks miscellaneous fire code violations and field complaints.
Administers burn permits and checks status of controlled burns.
Assists with and/or is assigned to fire suppression, rescue Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) activities as needed.
Participates in related Fire or EMT training.
Must be a non-smoker, and must not use any tobacco products.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
Performs Fire Inspections and plan review, and assists with fire investigations.

Must possess a current Florida Firefighter Certificate.
Must possess a current Broward County Fire Inspector Certification.
Must possess a current State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification.
Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license, with a good driving record (If the driver’s license was issued by a state other than Florida, you must obtain a State of Florida driver’s license prior to employment).
Must be a non-smoker, and must not use any tobacco products.
Current possession of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and/or a Broward County Fire Plans Examiner certificate are preferred. The following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities are required:
T horough knowledge of State and local building and fire codes and statutes.
Ability to follow oral and written assignments in English.
Ability to demonstrate above average verbal and written communication skills; superior reading comprehension skills and problem solving skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals, co-workers, other employees, and the general public.
Ability to conduct inspections, and ascertain facts through good investigation.
Ability to demonstrate good judgment and dependability. Note: The selected qualified applicant, after receiving a conditional job offer, must pass the Broward County Fire Academy Entrance Physical Ability test and obtain a Fire Fighter Physical ability card, prior to receiving a final job offer.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include ability to hear and distinguish various audio signals, alarms, and tones, and ability to judge volume level.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Eligibility List Criteria: An eligibility list shall be valid for six months (may be extended up to two years at the City's discretion), or until the list is abolished, whichever comes first. The list is formed based on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants on the eligibility list will be given consideration for each vacancy. Veterans' Preference shall be awarded pursuant to Florida Statutes.
