Prairie State College seeks experienced firefighters/fire officers to teach firefighter and fire officer courses starting Spring 2014. Successful candidates will have a desire to engage a diverse student population in various levels of Fire Service education.
The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule for teaching assignments.
FST 119 (Basic Firefighter Operations Academy) meets Monday and Thursday from 7p to 10p and Saturday's from 8:30 to 5, and runs 16 weeks in duration. We use a pool of instructors to teach the various Basic Firefighter subjects.
Fire Service Management 1-4 and Instructor I & II are online and run 8 weeks in duration. Candidates for these courses should have some tech savvy and have experience in the online course environment.
Other face to face courses include Strategy & Tactics 1 & 2, Vehicle Machinery Operations, Haz Mat Operations, Rope Operations, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Advanced Firefighter, and Fire Prevention Principles. These courses have a range of days/times and durations during the term.

Practical assistants must be OSFM Basic Firefighter certified (including Haz Mat Ops).
Classroom instructors must be OSFM Instructor I certified.
All other instructors, must be OSFM Instructor II certified plus certified to the level of the course they wish to teach.
