This paid-on-call position responds to fire, hazmat, rescue, medical and other emergency incidents, participates in training and maintenance activities, and provides fire and safety education to the public.
Hours: On-call hours when not at primary job.
Salary: $8.16 per hour - New hires, without the minimum certifications, start as a Temporary Apprentice Firefighter while completing training provided by the Maple Grove Fire Department. Minimum certifications must be completed within two years of being hired. Maple Grove Fire Department pays for the required training and time spent attending the training.
$10.58 per hour - New hires that already have the minimum certifications start as Probationary Paid-On-Call Firefighters. A Temporary Apprentice Firefighter can apply to be hired as a Probationary Paid-On-Call Firefighter after they complete minimum certifications.
$13.88 per hour - Paid-On-Call Firefighters who have completed an 18-month probationary period then become regular Paid-On-Call members of the Maple Grove Fire Department.
Examples of Duties:
Responds to emergency incidents within his/her assigned district during assigned period meeting minimum participation requirements.
Participates in fire prevention and safety education activities as assigned.
Participates in weekly drills, and other required training activities, and meets minimum participation and competency verification requirements.
Participates in station and apparatus maintenance activities.
Serves on standby crew and/or duty crew as assigned.
Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade.
Must be 18 years of age.
Possession of a valid unrestricted Minnesota Driver's License free of restrictions or suspensions and/or reckless driving behavior.
Requires previous completion of NFPA #472 First Responder Operations Level Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Training, current NFPA #1001 Firefighter I certification, and current certification as Minnesota Emergency Medical First Responder.
Must be a Maple Grove resident or live within a 5 minute drive time to a Maple Grove Fire Station.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in firefighting, rescue, EMS, or other public safety responder experience is desirable, but not required.
Advanced certification in firefighting, rescue, response to hazardous materials incidents, or in provision of emergency medical care is desirable.
