First Year and Second Year Experience Coordinators

The First Year and Second Year Experience Coordinators provide professional oversight for programs that positively influence retention of current students at The College at Brockport. Individuals selected for these roles are expected to assist in implementation of retention programs that improve student persistence and promote student success. Working in a highly relational environment, the FYE and SYE Coordinators oversee planning for such programs as first year orientation and peer mentoring. The FYE coordinator will work closely with campus constituents to implement initiatives such as college wide freshmen orientation and the STEPS program. The SYE coordinator is responsible for assisting students to successfully transition from the first to second year at the College at Brockport. Both the FYE and SYE coordinators are expected to work with students to assist them in transitioning to college and into their second year through structured events such as workshops and mentoring with the goal to help students refine their academic skills and challenge themselves to achieve at the College. The individuals selected for the FYE and SYE roles should have exceptional planning, communication, and coordination skills.

Job Responsibilities:
First Year Experience Coordinator:
*
Oversee planning and implementation of the comprehensive College-wide freshman orientation programming.

*
Administer the STEPS program for first year students on academic probation.

*
Update and maintain relevant web pages and publications including Brockport Bound, FYE, and parent sites and Facebook pages.

*
Outreach to deposited students.

*
Support the College Transition Program.

*
Chair Brockport Freshman Council.

*
Parent/family outreach.

*
Assist with office duties as assigned.

Second Year Experience Coordinator:
*
Oversee the Leave of Absence Process for the College.

*
Oversee the Peer Mentoring Program.

*
Administer the STEPS Program aimed at second year students on academic probation.

*
In collaboration with other offices, administer a year-long series of programs aimed at second-year student concerns.

*
Create and maintain second year website.

*
Chair Brockport Student Council.

*
Assist with office duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

*
Bachelor's Degree.

*
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

*
Experience working with students at the postsecondary level in an advisement, counseling, or retention role.

*
Knowledge of major and minor requirements and College policies.

*
Experience planning and implementing retention and/or orientation programmatic experiences for postsecondary students.

*
Experience with MS Office and student management/course management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

*
Master's Degree.

*
Experience administering a program of academic leaves and probations.

*
Familiarity with social media and the ability to utilize software to update web sites.
