The purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service to members, maintain a clean and safe facility, promote services and programs, and provide fitness guidance.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides excellent customer service including greeting customers and scanning of membership cards; providing information to interested individuals/families; fielding requests, complaints, and answering questions; providing guidance to members about fitness equipment and general fitness; coordinating and conducting new member orientation; promoting facility programs; and, developing good relationships with patrons.
Maintains facility and equipment including daily cleaning of all equipment; checking condition of facilities and equipment; maintain locker room cleanliness and stock; wash towels and cloths; maintain desk and front area presentation; arrange and stock kiosks; maintain computer lab cleanliness; sweep fitness studio; organize storage; and, clean coffee urns and cart.
Oversees fitness area including enforcement of safety, facility rules and procedures, and proper use of equipment.
Education and Experience:
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
No experience is required.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to maintain while employed.
Must have mobility within a field environment; must have a negative drug test and a negative TB test; must have current CPT and must be able to obtain First Aid, AED and Blood Borne Pathogen certifications.
Within three months of employment, Personal Trainer certification must be obtained from one of the following groups: ACSM-Health Fitness Instructor (H/FI), Cooper Institute-Personal Trainer (PT), NCSA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), AFAA-Personal Trainer (PT), YMCA of the USA-Personal Training Instructor (PTI). Others are subject to approval by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
Basic ability to recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words. Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.
