non-exempt; part-time; 2 - 6 hours per week; Tuesday 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., and Thursday 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for 6 to 8-week program sessions; no-benefits

This position will be responsible for planning routines and workouts along with marketing the boot camp program through flyers and posters. Classes are held at Ballenger Creek Park Community Building. The Instructors teach 6-8 week boot camp sessions during the fall, winter, spring and summer. The Instructors will receive one hour of planning each class, if participant numbers are high enough. Necessary equipment will be provided by the Division of Parks and Recreation. Supervision is received from the Recreation Coordinator.

Examples of Work:
  • Coordinate lesson plans and course outlines
  • Assist with the marketing of the boot camp program
  • Assure the return and condition of issued equipment and supplies; create and distribute flyers, posters, etc.
  • Supervise participants while in class, adhering to safety procedures
  • Compile and maintain record-keeping related to each class (e.g. attendance)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum age 21 years
  • Minimum 3 years of experience instructing groups of individuals in fitness related classes
  • Current professional fitness-related certification issued by an accredited issuing authority
  • Current certification in Community First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified before the program begins (certification must be maintained throughout employment)
  • Ability to effectively prepare and carry out lesson plans (as appropriate)
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working/teaching relationships with co-workers, participants and their family members, and the general public
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills in order to conduct classes and perform related record-keeping
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise large and small groups in recreational activities
  • Physical requirements include the ability to actively participate fitness training as part of the instruction process, and to set-up and take-down related equipment
