Responsible for creating, marketing and managing cutting edge, balanced, and member-focused fitness programming while recruiting and developing a team of entertaining, educated and motivated instructors. This position will be expected to take strategic and proactive steps to grow kid/group fitness programs and generate revenue.
Administration and communication
Ensure all Fitness Programs are successful by scheduling and monitoring programs and instructors on a monthly basis, coordinate subbing/coverage for classes as needed, and maintain records of attendance
Provide classes taught for payroll processing every two weeks and class enrollment reports to General Manager at the end of every month
Ensure that all programming facilities and equipment are well maintained at all times
Complete monthly equipment inventories and communicates needs to General Manager
Attend and participate in department head meetings every week
Meet with instructors and department managers on a regular basis to communicate information and resolve issues in a timely manner. Be present onsite to address questions about group and kid fitness programs.
Operate the department within budget guidelines and track/reconcile the Fitness Program budget on a monthly basis.
Recruit, audition, hire, supervise, and evaluate instructors. Performance evaluations must be completed once a year and class observations of all instructors should be completed every 6 months.
Maintain group certification records and CPR records including Les Mills certifications
Marketing and promotions
Promote all company programs, products and services to current and prospective members and ensure that instructors receive communication to do the same
Create and market kid/ group fitness programs to various user groups in the community
Develop and collaborate with other departments such as Child Care to create new programs and initiatives
Work with Marketing Director and plan for special events such as Les Mills Quarterly Launches, Anniversary party for gym, Membership Appreciation Day, etc.
Teach 1-2 group and kid fitness classes every week (see below for key responsibilities of fitness instructors)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is received from President and General Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Functional and administrative supervision is exercised over group fitness and kid fitness staff.
Key functions of youth fitness instructors
Ensuring that members needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service and group fitness classes;
Assuming a leadership role as a professional in the area of exercise and aerobics;
Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising;
Arriving to teach class in advance of the scheduled time to greet participants, answer questions and address concerns;
Dressing appropriately for teaching exercise classes;
Arriving well-prepared, music cued and routine thought out;
Learning the names of participants who attend your classes;
Sharing educational information with your class participants;
Teaching classes with energy and enthusiasm;
Motivating class participants to the best of your ability;
Noting new participants and sharing basic exercise information with them;
Finding a substitute instructor if unable to teach and recording it appropriately;
