The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation has a career opportunity for fitness professional to join our team. The Fitness Specialist II is responsible for developing, marketing and implementing diverse, revenue generating fitness and wellness programs for the community at our Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center. This leadership role hires and supervises fitness instructors and personal trainers; teaches fitness classes and provides fitness training for clients as needed. ENTRY SALARY: $47,039.46 - $62,668.06/yr.

General Definition of Work, Typical tasks, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Develops and operates fitness and wellness programs and services in response to the diverse needs of the community.
Develops, implements and evaluates fitness programs;
Hires, trains, and supervises fitness instructors;
Trains clients, teaches fitness classes or performs fitness orientations as necessary;
Assists customers by addressing customer concerns;
Creates materials to promote programs, services and events;
Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the fitness area and performs upkeep, maintenance and inventory of the equipment;
Develops and implements community events and customer incentive programs;
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of industry guidelines for health/fitness related instruction. Ability to work with individuals and/or groups through training sessions, fitness assessments/consultations, equipment instruction, and/or exercise sessions. Skills in staff supervision, budgeting and program development. Ability to work morning, evening and/or weekends as needed.
Education and Experience:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to six (6) years in fitness/wellness and supervision. Certification in one of following is desired: Cooper Institute certification preferred,. American Council on Exercise (ACE), American Fitness Professional Association (AFPA), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and CPR/First Aid/AED certification required. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls;
Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine;
Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking and repetitive motions;
