To develop and supervise the physical fitness programs at Parks and Recreation facilities.

Essential Job Functions:

Develops and implements physical fitness programs for members and participants, with approval from supervisor. Assigns and supervises the work activities of part-time personnel. Tests fitness equipment to ensure it is safe and functioning properly. Develops, schedules and accepts reservations for participation in fitness programs; maintains participant rosters as required. Develops special Outreach recreation and fitness programs for individuals with special needs; implements upon approval from supervisor. Develops individual fitness plans for members and participants based on their specific needs; evaluates the effectiveness of each individual's plan. Teaches or hires outside instructors to teach swimming, gymnastics, aerobics, and other fitness programs with supervisory approval. Collects fees from individuals for participation in fitness programs. Hires individuals from outside agencies to conduct cholesterol screenings and take blood pressure readings for Center members and participants, with supervisory approval. Coordinates and provides special programs at the Adult Center, Fitness Center and/or Recreation Centers with supervisory approval.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: assigned part-time personnel.

Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements:

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of college course work in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a related area, two (2) years of experience in developing and conducting physical fitness training programs, or a related area, and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirement:

Must be available for shift assignments which include evenings, weekends and holidays.
