The City of Avondale Public Works Department has an opening for a full-time Fleet Services Supervisor, FLSA exempt position with benefits.
This position will direct operations in the shop and parts department. Supervises and prioritizes work of technicians. Manages the City's fuel supply/storage system. Contacts outside vendors for repairs. Interacts with the Fleet Services Coordinator and various City departments.
Examples of Duties:
Supervises and maintains the shop and parts department for Fleet Services. Prioritizes daily work assignments of technicians. Assists in the diagnoses, repair, and maintenance of the City's fleet.
Participates in development and administration of the division's budget.
Develops and implements division's safety practices and procedures.
Works with management, fleet services coordinator and equipment parts specialist, in maintaining the City's preventative maintenance program, vehicle maintenance records, vehicle replacement schedule, fuel records and inventory, and parts inventory.
Coordinates and inspects maintenance and repair work to vehicles and equipment performed by outside vendors.
Participates in the training and evaluation of fleet maintenance personnel. Develops division's goals and objectives, and monitors work standards and progress to ensure implementation.
Provides outstanding customer service to all city departments; coordinating vehicle repairs, communicating vehicle status, advising on new and replacement vehicle and equipment purchases.
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
Experience in Public Works operations or similar administration, and over five years experience in equipment and / or automotive supervision. Over five years experience in managing a fuel supply/storage system. Knowledge in purchasing, monitoring, documentation and reporting requirements. Strong knowledge of fleet asset management experience using RTA software preferred.
Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License at time of hire.
Work requires the ability to read manuals and quotes.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Work requires the ability to write reports, bids, correspondence, and employee evaluations.
Planning responsibilities include job schedules and forecasting needs for parts.
The incumbent prepares documents and does research to justify language used in documents for a division of a department and may recommend budget allocations.
Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a group of employees in a work unit including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.
Work is governed by broad instructions, objectives and policies. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment.
The incumbent must be skilled in team building and team processes. The incumbent in this position will work with others within the organization. A team approach must be taken to involve all stakeholders in the decision making processes for purchases and projects. In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations. Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the employee. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies or products. Employee must maintain regular attendance.
