We are currently seeking a Flow Cytometry Scientist for the Frederick, MD area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contractor shall independently operation and scheduled maintenance of the BD FACS Verse cytometer, the Attune acoustic cytometer, BD FACS Aria III cell sorter and additional BD analyzers (FacsCanto and FacsCaliburs). Contract will also evaluate and troubleshoot problems.

Contractor must be willing to work with BSL-2 and supervise/ advise BSL-3 and BSL-4 sample preparation and sortings of biohazardous infectious material.

Contractor shall assist in experimental design and protocol development, data acquisition and analysis.

Contractor shall assist with assay design as well as appropriate reagent selection and optimization.

Contractor shall assist in the implementation of standardized protocols for experiments and training purposes.

Contractor shall assist Principal Investigators with publications and presentations by extracting and compiling data in an acceptable format. Incumbent encouraged to publish own research when possible.

Contractor shall ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Contractor must have ability to work independently, good verbal communication skills, and ability to interact successfully with a broad range of individuals within the Institute.

Contractor must have general lab experience working with cell cultures and cells ex vivo.

Contractor must be computer competency in both PC and MAC systems and relevant computer programs is a must.

Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.

Performs light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Position requires a M.S. and 10 years experience or Ph.D and 5 years experience in research environment.

Contractor shall establish a Flow Cytometry core within USAMRIID. Incumbent will provide daily oversight and management of the Research Core Laboratory and provide technical expertise in the area of flow cytometry through the operations of at a minimum three flow cytometers/cell sorters.

It is intended that this position will manage and guide the daily operations of the Research Core Laboratory facilities and equipment in order to provide the investigators at USAMRIID with the required resources for research conduct.

Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
