Food Service Assistant-II position is part of the tray services. Serves foods prepared in the main kitchen. Items such as tongs, scoops, spoons, and ladles are assembled by the Nutritional Services Assistant in order to serve therapeutic diets. Must be able to read and follow menu and tray card to serve correct foods and correct portions. Helps in the service of trays for regular and modified diets of any combinations. Delivers trays and nourishments to designated wards. This position prepares needed punch, tea, or juice according to census. On occasions the FSA-II will use the kitchen van to make food deliveries to patient wards. This position serves as acting supervisor on the serving lines when needed. This position covers 2nd shift at the Employee’s Café when needed. The normal work hours are a combination of 10:00 am to 6:30 pm or 11:00 am to 7:30 pm. Due to funds availability, salary may be limited to actual budgeted amount.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Ability to read, interpret menus, diet cards, and written instructions. Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and follow proper food sanitation standards, ability to follow oral and written instructions as well as keep some routine records, the knowledge of the operation and cleaning of food service equipment, ability to serve trays by following tray cards. Serves as acting supervisor on the serving lines when NSS-I or NSS-II supervisors are not present. Prefer to have valid NC driver’s license. Covers 2nd shift at the Employee’s Café when needed. FSA-II is a team player at all times in the Nutritional Services Department and in the hospital.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education and/or experience in preparing and serving food that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional kitchen.
