General Statement of Job
This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe food services area for the hospital. The employee assists in the preparation of meals in a hospital kitchen environment including special patient needs, setup, delivery, and cleanup of meals for patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Records patients’ diet orders, food preferences and changes as needed.
Creates and maintains patient diet history and other associated clerical duties for the Dietary Department.
Completes meal tray cards.
Visits new patients to ascertain food preferences; responds and repeats to staff accordingly.
Prepares desserts, supplements and alternate food items as needed.
Sets up tray line equipment, condiments, beverages, soups and all other food items for each meal.
Checks meal trays for nutrition accuracy.
Gathers special requests and p.m. snacks as required.
Monitors the various nursing unit refrigerators for correct temperature and outdated items.
Delivers patient trays and performs cashier duties as required.
Prepares and sets up the hospital’s cafeteria salad, beverage, and other food item stations.
Prepares food areas and steam tables for meal service.
Prepares, serves and cleans up after each meal.
Observes personal sanitation procedures including, but not limited to, washing hands and wearing hair nets.
Assists co-workers as needed.
Retrieves, disassembles and washes all utensils, dishes, trays and insulated meal components.
Washes, rinses and sanitizes all equipment, devices and utensils in accordance with regulatory standards.
Records dish machine temperatures as required by regulatory and hospital standards.
Cleans and organizes the freezer, walk-in cooler and store room as needed.
Stocks storage areas as required.
Maintains a clean and sanitary work area at all times.
Sweeps and mops floors after each meal served and as needed.
Transports garbage to the dumpster and cleans dumpster area as needed.
Performs heavy cleaning tasks as needed.
Assists with proper food storage, dating, rotating and receiving of food items.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Six (6) months to one (1) year experience preferred .
