This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time, academic year (10 month), Food Service Worker 3 position for the University Housing & Dining Services at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position is eligible for meal perquisites per the SEIU contract.

This position will adhere to all OSU and UHDS policies and procedures.

The purpose of this position is to provide support to OSU Catering and UHDS program by coordinating the customer's catering requests. The catering assistant will provide information and direction about, Catering & Dining, to customers and employees. The responsibilities include catering planning, providing quality assurance of food products, health department compliance, employees training and assurance of the standards of appearance for all catered food displays. This position services as a member of an administrative team that will plan and facilitate the catering service for UHDS. As part of the team they will contribute ideas and take part in planning long-term departmental goals.

Position Duties

50% Implement Daily Orders. Gather necessary supplies for set-up of catering orders. Daily operation of large department owned vehicles to transport, set-up and display food at the correct location and time, including on and off site orders. During an event: serve food, clear plates, pour beverages, and ensure customer satisfaction. Solve customer complaints by relying on food service knowledge and policies set forth by OSU Catering. Assign and prioritize work to student employees as needed. Review completed student work for accuracy and timeliness. During specific events, oversee alcohol service to customers that could include service of beer and wine and physical inventory.

30% Leading and Training of 40 - 60 Student Employees. Assigning duties to be performed for each order during the academic year, including interviewing, selecting and suggesting pay increases. Assist in implementing the departments' employee-training program. Continually train and coach students in the areas of customer service, food handling, health department compliance, proper service techniques, transporting of food to off-site locations, event preparation, various service styles, breakdown and clean-up.

10% Clerical: Organizational Set-up, Ordering and Scheduling. On a daily basis, organize the next day's catered events in terms of confirming scheduling, staffing, deliveries, event times, and locations. This organizational set-up is crucial to the smooth operation of the department. Also to be included in the pre-event organization the day before, with daily informal meetings with the Catering Chef to reconfirm catered event attendance, specific offerings, logistics, and other pertinent details pertaining to the upcoming events. Ordering food and beverage products from multiple vendors based on upcoming events.

05% Confirm with kitchen all necessary items will be prepared by the designated time. Determine food and supplies required for events specific to catering inventories and order appropriate amounts from vendors. Assist with site visits and post event reporting.

Position Duties (continued):
05% Contribute ideas and input regarding department in weekly staff meetings. Take part in planning long-term departmental goals. Based on procedures written in the employee handbook, coach student employees, and orally present proper training procedures. Will be the Cashier at events and handle student and customer inquiries or complaints when needed. Use a computer to check work schedule, complete time sheets and check employer provided e-mail.

Working Conditions/Work Schedule:
This position works a flexible work schedule. Working nights, weekends, and holidays; with different days off and start and stop times depending on the catering scheduled events.

This position performs "Essential functions" and is required to report to work during emergency university closures.

The person in this position will often be required to lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

This position is a physically active job. Incumbent will experience long periods on their feet standing and walking.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

Three years of experience in a commercial food service facility; OR an Associate Degree in Food Service Management.

Required Valid Food Service Permit within 30 days of employment.

State of Oregon OLCC server permit within 30 days of employment.

Experience with food handling process and procedures to maintain standards for safety and sanitation.

The person in this position will often be required to lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

This position is designated as a critical, security-sensitive or safety-sensitive position; therefore, finalist for this position must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be deemed fit for duty at placement and while serving in the position.

This position must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record while serving in the position; therefore, the incumbent must provide a copy of their driving history for the past 2 years from the issuing state's Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Pursuant to UHDS Policy, this position is required to maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification (if cognitively and physically able to do so) within 90 days of employment or when training becomes available by the department. Training is provided at department expense. Duty to act ends at summoning professional emergency assistance.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a University or Retail catering operation.

Lead work and Training of Employees.

Ordering & Scheduling for events.
