You will perform duties that require proficiency in special procedures and a broad knowledge of service operations, such as food preparation, dishwashing, dry and refrigerated storage, and food and beverage serving; use recipes or instructions from packages, prepares nourishments/snacks and special beverages, or other foods required by regular and therapeutic/modified consistency diets; and cook or re-thermalize a variety of foods that require grilling, deep fat frying, broiling, and use of the oven or microwave cooking. Use established safe food handling procedures, labels and stores food properly, and complies with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines; perform patient tray assembly; and deliver to patients on the wards per established procedures. You will portion all food items and beverages according to established standards, specifics of diet order, and special instructions from registered dietitians and diet technicians. Interpret diet orders and verify patients' diet order with staff and diet rosters. Provide information to diet technician and/or registered dietitian concerning significant changes in current diet order or patients having dietary problems which hinders adequate intake. Provide patients with information about modified diets and forward complex nutritional questions to diet technician and/or registered dietitian. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition to ensure compliance with safe food handling procedures, and to maintain safe working environment. Operate food service equipment in a safe manner. Runs the Point of Sale cash register system, collect cash and make exact change, secure and safeguard cash, and turn in cash according established procedures. Assist in the training of dietetic interns, military food service specialists (91M) and newly assigned personnel by demonstrating procedures.
You must be able to able to perform the work of a Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision, w here ability to do the common or complex tasks is prime.
Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require the employee to continuously stand, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull, and reach. Must frequently lift and carry supplies, materials, or equipment weighing in excess of 45 pounds with or without assistance.
Work is performed predominantly in a noisy kitchen, and sometimes in dining area. The work involves continuous walking and standing on tile floors. The incumbent is exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds.
