The Assistant Dare Bomb Range Ranger oversees completion of the weekly work plan for North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) personnel at the Dare Bomb Range. This position performs Incident Command (IC) function and other IC System positions for fire control, organizes and conducts prescribed burning for fuel control purposes, and ensures the maintenance of all equipment assigned to the NCFS at Stumpy Point. The position oversees the maintenance of over 120 miles of gravel/dirt roads for fire control access and provides canal maintenance for water management purposes. The position also assists the Dare Bomb Range Ranger in daily/weekly meetings with USAF and US Navy personnel to provide status updates on work completed. This position functions as supervisor in the absence of the Dare Bomb Range Ranger. **Must reside within District 13 boundaries.** Position is h eadquartered in Stumpy Point.

**NCFS is an Emergency Response Division - work schedule may require extended hours, on-call, and possible emergency callback. May work out of district for extended periods of time on emergency dispatch (up to 16 days).**

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
An ideal candidate will have knowledge of wildland fire suppression techniques as well as planning and organizing skills. The candidate should have the ability to communicate orally by expressing ideas in an individual or group setting, adjusting the language and terminology to the characteristics and needs of the audience. The candidate should also have the ability to actively influence events to achieve goals; be self-starting rather than passive acceptance; have the ability to take action beyond what is necessary to achieve results; and have the ability to listen and work to understand the customer (both inside and outside government). Must have the ability to anticipate customer needs and give a high priority to customer satisfaction.

Prefer applicants with general knowledge in all aspects of wildland fire control and knowledge of road and canal maintenance techniques. Prefer experience in Coastal Plain fire suppression and knowledge of NCFS cooperators (VFD, NC Wildlife, USFWS, Emergency Mgt.; ETC.) Computer skills and supervisory experience also preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum requirements include graduation from a two-year technical school with an associate's degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum and four years of related experience in providing forestry services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Minimum training and experience for a trainee appointment includes graduation from a two-year technical school with an associate's degree in forest management or an environmental or natural science curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of related experience in providing forestry services.

Necessary Special Qualification: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license required within 90 days of hire.
