Responsible for the preparation and delivery of all infant formula. Techniques must adhere to all sanitary regulations and standards established by Arkansas Children's Hospital and regulatory agencies. The Formula Room Technician is responsible for safe and effective operation of equipment needed to prepare infant formula and maintain sanitation in the preparation room. Completes formula orders and temperature records.

Process and complete orders, including the preparation and delivery of all infant formulas according to written guidelines and quality control standards. Follows correct guidelines for preparation of formula and breast milk in health care facility.
- Prepare and deliver formula to hospital units.
- Uses advance critical thinking skills to accurately calculate complicated formulas based on recipes and patient data.
- Prepares formula precisely according to recipes using graduated measuring devices and gram scales.
- Verification of all recipes with Clinical Nutrition diet technician or Registered Dietitian.
- Communicates with Nutrition Services Management, Registered Dietitians, and patient care areas regarding any formula orders, formula storage, or administration.
- Inventory and maintain sufficient accurate formula room stock. Participates in weekly inventory retrieval from nursing units.
- Print or manually create legible formula labels as needed for patient care.
- Stores formula using First In First Out Method while covering and dating formula products as needed.
- Assists in training of other employees in formula preparation and proper handling techniques as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains adequate stock on nourishment rooms on patient units.
- Minimizes waste by managing time and preparation following the receipt of the most recent orders.
Provide customer service pertaining to formula orders, formulary, and patient services.
- Work with all levels of the hospital personnel, including dietitians, nursing services and customers in a professional and service-oriented manner at all times.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills, communication (written and verbal) skills, organizational skills, and possess and demonstrate patient/customer service attitude at all times.
- Responds to patient and or staff needs to formula taking immediate action to provide service.
- Demonstrates professional telephone etiquette and customer service to all levels of hospital personnel.
- Manage conversations to follow policies of when to prepare and deliver new formula, order changes, and requests for formula following deadlines.
Performs daily formula room sanitation and operational standards to meet the needs of the work environment.
- Adheres to all ServSafe guidelines.
- Adheres to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment.
- Complies with all food safety and sanitation regulations including The Joint Commission, CMS, state, county, and local health department, OSHA; and ACH department policies.
- Uses personal protective equipment as needed.
- Provides daily sanitation and cleaning of the work area including work equipment, formula room, and formula storage area.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
• Field of Study: Food and Nutrition
2 years total experience required
which includes 2 years of hospital nutrition or customer service working in food preparation experience
ServSafe Food Handler (Educational Certificate)
• Candidate must obtain within 1 months of hire date or eligibility
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Must demonstrate mathematical ablility sufficient to interpret orders, measure ingredients, and perform complex mathematical calculations.
Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
