The department of Facilities Services has an outstanding opportunity for a GARDENER 2. Under general supervision, this position will perform skilled maintenance of UW Tacoma campus grounds.
Typical work includes:
Prepare soil for planting seed, sod, turf, plants, trees and shrubs;
Clean, service and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment;
Seed, mow, irrigate, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge and maintain lawns;
Rake and remove leaves; pull and hoe weeds;
Remove debris, leaves, and brush from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking facilities;
Assist in the installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components;
Plant seed, sod, bulbs, shrubs, and trees;
Prune, spray and fertilize trees, shrubs and ground covers;
Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers;
Install and maintain campus signs, fences, rockeries, etc.;
Operate power and motorized equipment such as small trucks and tractors, lawn mowers, edgers, chain saws, weed trimmers, backpack blowers and sweepers;
May apply pesticides and herbicides to greenery and plant material;
Perform related duties as required.
Physical ability to do required work AND one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care, cultivation and landscape installation OR equivalent education/experience.
Condition of Employment:
