The City of Fort Worth is hiring a temporary Gardener for the Parks and Community Services Department, Botanic Gardens, to perform skilled gardening work in the planting and maintenance of assigned areas and provide assistance to supervisory staff as assigned.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and ability for this position:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work in Horticulture or closely related field PLUS two (2) years of responsible experience in a professional gardening or nursery environment selecting and applying pesticides, planting and pruning. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience working in an arboretum, college campus or estate garden. Applicant must have good knowledge of landscape plans and their care. Knowledge and experience with pools, fountains and irrigations systems is desirable. Must have the ability to provide technical and functional supervision over lower-level maintenance personnel and good people skills. Ability to operate a variety of landscape equipment including a front end loader.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Texas drivers license and an acceptable driving record is required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Texas pesticide applicators license is required.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS: City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; exposure to noise, work with and around water as well as moving objects or vehicles; exposure to pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals and fumes; work closely with others.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; light and moderate lifting and carrying; kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, adequate vision, speech, and hearing; general manual dexterity; must be able to operate assigned vehicles and equipment.
