Provides basic GIS support applying fundamental theories, practices and skills using GIS software and technology. Responds to both standard and non-standard requests. Providing maps and data sets in a variety of formats to clients in support of technical analyses and graphically presenting certain variables based on geographic location.
The analyst creates, collects and receives data from a source, transfers that data into a specific database, and may also make decisions or prepare reports based on the created information. Spatial analysis and representation of data in maps are important responsibilities of this position. Conducts database design and coordinates updates and changes to databases applying quality control procedures on the data ensuring its accuracy. May be asked to provide technical and customer support to end users. Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge. Responds to non-standard requests from customers. Understands business drivers and works to control cost related to own work. Understands and can present business value of GIS to internal and external clients.
Must be familiar with spatial and attribute data. Needs to have experience with cartography and map design as well. Computer skills are critical A strong background in GIS software is required. A working understanding of programming language is important as well. Skill in using database management software is required. Solid communication skills are necessary, both written and verbal.
