The purpose of this position is to assist with administration and monitoring of the City’s geographical information system. This is accomplished by assisting with the advanced integration of data into spatial databases; participating in the advanced analysis, evaluation, and testing of computer systems; conducting analysis of GIS system specifications; developing documentation for system changes; consulting with end users, management, staff, and vendors in the identification and resolution of software problems and improvements; developing advanced applications and products to fulfill customer requirements; and maintaining databases for GIS related metadata.
Essential Job Functions*:
Utilizes technical data to support analysis of GIS by interpreting GIS data; troubleshooting advanced GIS systems and databases; coordinating the design and update of relational databases; performing graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building and database updates; assisting with the coordination and acquisition of new geographic data; assisting with the integration of data into the GIS; participating in the analysis, evaluation and testing of computer systems; designing advanced SQL queries against GIS data to support business reporting requirements; developing GIS applications; and assisting with the integration of data between computer systems.
Develops systems or project requirements by meeting with users to develop system or project requirements; transferring requirements into design specifications; consulting with end users, management, staff, and vendors in identification and resolution of software problems and improvements; and facilitating end user personnel in the use of systems or application.
Coordinates software installs and applies updates and patches; tests systems.
Performs advanced mappings requests for internal and external clients.
Prepares concise reports with associated recommendations to management by providing analytical recommendations when advised; documenting procedures; assisting with the creation of internal policies and procedures; and assisting with recommending the IT annual budget.
Provides development support for new and existing computer programs by developing entire applications from conception and design to implementation phase; testing applications during pre-production phase; and by determining resolution with programs.
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma, or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Three to five years experience required.
