DESCRIPTION

Software Engineer with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for full-time benefited position with the University of Utah's Energy & Geoscience Institute (EGI). Will work in a team setting and/or individually. Candidate should demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, have a can-do attitude, and be innovative and resourceful enough to know how to accomplish GIS software development projects with minimal direction.

The Developer under limited supervision will assist in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems, data, software, and services at EGI for its Corporate Associates. Assist in developing integrated solutions to Oil and Gas Community, Spatial Data Management and scientific data gathering issues. Responsible for a wide variety of production tasks and some task supervision for ongoing geospatial projects. Understands and interprets EGI's data and client business applications, and is responsible for developing applications and products to fulfill customer requirements.

DUTIES

1. Utilize ESRI's suite ArcGIS software applications with relational databases including MS Access, Oracle and SQL Server.
2. Develop, deploy, and maintain GIS applications built with ArcGIS extensions and ArcServer.
3. Develop mash-ups with other mapping technologies such as Google Maps and Bing.
4. Develop functional applications from use case descriptions, write and debug code, create application user documentation, and maintain web applications and software releases.
5. Develop and maintain client ESRI ArcGIS web applications and services with ASP.NET, Java, JavaScript, HTML, web scripting and SQL programming.
6. Performance tune servers running ArcGIS and databases, including upgrading various server software packages in a timely manner.
7. Assist in the management of client data in SQL Server SDE environment.
8. Assist in the creation of new directories on IIS web servers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors in Computer Science and in-depth knowledge of Object Oriented Programming. Coursework in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Engineering or other related fields required. Preference given to candidates with experience/training in Web Application Development using VB and C++. Masters degree candidates preferred.
