Works closely with GIS Coordinator/Supervisor and land management to provide specialized GIS support as needed. Develops GIS techniques and solutions in an ESRI based environment. Works closely with lease records staff to ensure data integrity and accurate map representation. May be asked to contribute to SDE support by managing various GIS data layers. Uses map theory and advanced analytical skills to perform daily work. Utilizes high level programming for system modification and increased productivity. Is a key player in project development efforts and is considered a technical resource for all GIS staff. May be assigned lead on special projects.
Provides GIS support for Devon’s land department and is responsible for high level GIS development and maintenance.
Uses programming languages to interact with GIS software and geospatial databases.
Specializes in the use of ETL software like FME for analyzing land data in geospatial environments.
Develops improvements for web mapping applications.
Occasionally teaches workshops explaining the use of web mapping and/or other GIS processes.
Uses knowledge of Tobin’s land data model to find solutions for management and develops new techniques for streamlining existing processes.
Performs quality control and works closely with lease records to improve representation of Devon’s land data.
Interacts with land management in a professional manner and is a team player.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Research and retrieve supporting basemap data from the Internet.
Help maintain GIS Workroom plotter supply inventory.
Help keep GIS Workroom clean and organized.
Train new staff.
Must have a bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geology, Geography, Cartography or related discipline that teaches analysis of spatial data utilizing GIS technology and map theory.
Requires 3 to 5 years of experience analyzing data with GIS and geodatabases.
Must have 2 years of experience as assigned lead on specific GIS and/or remote sensing projects.
Must have experience modifying GIS systems and data using ESRI software along with SQL, FME, Visual Basic, Python, ArcObjects or similar programs and languages.
May substitute a master’s degree for some experience.
Must have professional knowledge of and/or expertise with ESRI GIS core products including ArcGIS 10.x, ArcSDE and ArcGIS Server, plus experience with databases such as ORACLE and MS Access.
Must have a strong comprehension of fundamental geodetic theory, including the use of spheroids and datums, and be able to transform data between various map projections.
Previous Oil & Gas experience is preferred.
