Performs maintenance and management of agency-specific geographic information in relation to the implementation of the City’s GIS program. The position is responsible for using GIS applications, SDE Geodatabase maintenance, providing technical support for GIS projects, including support in mapping and geo-spatial analyses. The position works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

The Department of Public Works is seeking qualified applicants for the position of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician in its GIS Division. Duties include but are not limited to:
Maintain and update the department owned data and records;
Provide GIS analysis, mapping and technical support to its internal and external customers; Assist department GIS end users with ESRI ArcGIS software and data related issues;
Maintain and support the department’s asset management system- Cityworks, and provide reports, analysis, mapping and technical support to users in Public Works; Perform daily GIS functions for creation of quality and accurate geospatial information using ESRI ArcGIS software and SDE Geodatabase, imagery, CAD and other resources;
Generates routines and specialized geo-processing activities;
Ensure data integrity and conformance to data standards established in the City; Develops and presents information about CityWorks, GIS applications, training, and resource programs;
Maintains materials and documents related to the development, application, and maintenance of GIS databases, assets and other information for Cityworks;
Work with other members of the GIS Team to provide overall service and guidance on asset management and GIS related issues.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:
Requires Bachelor's degree in Geography, Earth Sciences, Information Systems, Computer, or a related field.
A minimum of either one year of ArcGIS software-related experience, or completion of 3 credit hours in GIS coursework, or completion of 1 introductory class offered through professional training opportunities.
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
