DESCRIPTION

Keiser University’s Media and Public Relations department is the primary source for consistent and accurate information about the university and the campus communities. The Government Relations department represents the university before lawmakers, elected officials and government entities, all of whom rely on the University for timely, trustworthy and honest information. Both departments work closely together to serve as expert postsecondary education resources and advocates on behalf of students and employees of Keiser University for the relevant publics.

Key Responsibilities:
This position provides an opportunity to develop verbal and written correspondence, relationships and partnerships with internal constituents and external audiences within the media and government fields.

Qualified candidates should have the following:
• Integrity and a team player who has shown the ability and track record of winning the confidence and trust of colleagues
• Commitment to their work, capable of building partnerships
• Must be flexible, expect business travel and work well in a fast paced environment
• Undergraduate degree in political science, communications, public relations or business administration, or other related field
• 3-5 years of lobbying or media relations experience with an organization, experience in a Legislative branch/media outlet, or other government or media relations experience
• Have proven ability to operate independently, apply sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality
• Must have excellent oral, written, public speaking skills and have exceptional detail and organizational skills
• Candidates with demonstrated strong performance, capability and interest, but without prior specific job experience in government or media relations may be considered, but must show unique potential to succeed in this position
• Primary focus will be on state and federal media and legislative issues
• Demonstrated experience in organization branding and messaging preferred
• Responsive and accurate communication required internally and externally, including unique times of crisis
• Experience in legislative and media monitoring, including social and 24/7 media preferred
