The City of Fort Worth is hiring a temporary Greenhouse Attendant for the Parks and Community Services Department, Planning and Resource Management Division, to participate in nursery operation and production and to assist in germinating, nurturing and growing a variety of trees; assist in transplanting trees to various parks and other sites in the city; prune trees, maintain irrigation systems; and participate in special events preparations and operations.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of various species of trees; common insects, diseases, weeds and plant nutrient requirements; methods and techniques of pruning and planting; fertilizer, sprayer, seed spreaders and pesticide equipment; and proper techniques and uses of variety of hand tools and equipment. Must have the ability to identify tree problems and treat with appropriate chemicals; operate assigned vehicle and maintain an effective working relationship with employees and the public.

Skills / Requirements The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
High School Diploma or GED with specialized training in Horticulture/Arboriculture plus two (2) years of responsible experience in a professional greenhouse or nursery environment selecting and applying pesticides, planting and pruning.

Possession of, or the ability to, obtain a valid Texas drivers license and an acceptable driving record is required. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Texas Commercial Drivers license.
MISC. REQUIREMENTS: City of Fort Worth policy on acceptable driving record required.
Environmental Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor working environments in a greenhouse or nursery operation; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; work with and around water as well as moving objects or vehicles; exposure to pesticides and fertilizers; work closely with others.

Physical Conditions:

Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying; kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling; adequate vision , speech, and hearing; general manual dexterity; must be able to operate assigned vehicles and equipment.
