This position is located in Edina, MN.

Work closely with and shadow Interior Designers and Design Assistants to plan, design, and furnish interiors of residential and commercial projects. Discusses interior design ideas and provides advice at retail to customers and Interior Designers. This person uses selling techniques to support the clients' needs and desires in all aspects of the design process with all product categories.

This is a temporary internship position. Approximate length of internship is 3 months depending on business needs. The schedule will be Monday - Friday hours. This is an unpaid internship.

Proficiency in the use of Word and Excel

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Design Assistant Intern is responsible for:
Learns the current trends, concepts and elements of Interior Design through partnership of an Interior Designer.
Learns about the vast array of products, vendors and resources (including materials and construction).
Attends Gabberts floor tours, fabric showings, and vendor presentations.
Learns how to order memo samples, develop client house call photos, coordinate pre-work meetings and presentations, assist in house call, and drafting.

Adheres to safe lifting techniques, follows proper training for learned job hazards and ergonomic risk factors, participates in departmental stretching program, and overall maintains a safe working environment.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and in small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees within the organization.

Education and/or Experience

This person needs to be currently enrolled in an Interior Design program at an accredited college or university, and have basic knowledge of the Interior Design community with an interest in textiles.

Mathematical Skills

Mathematical aptitude to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Need to be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
