The purpose of this position is to provide expert care in all phases of gardening. from soil preparation to planting and maintaining flowers. shrubbery and trees for the Parks and Recreation Department; assisting with interdepartmental projects and working to achieve the highest level of cooperation and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
Examples Of Essential Duties:
This position performs all types of plant gardening to include planting, pruning, fertilizing, and watering plants and shrubs; treating soil in preparation for planting; cultivating seeds, bulbs, corns, and tubers; and
edging and sweeping around flower beds. Follows all safety precautions necessary in operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Identifies "pest" infestation. determines proper treatment, and prepares pesticides, herbicides and fungicides as necessary. Utilizes various tools and equipment, such as hand garden tools, chemical sprayers, water meter ,copier, base radio, tiller, generator. Operates pick-up truck to transport plant materials to various work sites. Records. updates and/or files various reports. including work orders, sowing schedules, etc., and prepares time sheets and daily reports in absence of supervisor. Determines material and equipment needs for monthly inventory, and prepares seasonal plant purchase list. Contacts vendors regarding essential supplies. and processes billing invoice.
High School diploma or GED required. Six (6) months gardening or landscaping experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license. Must obtain Georgia Commercial Pesticide Applicators license. Class 24, within six months of employment.
