Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $1,627 - $2,666 Monthly
*Although the full salary range is provided, appointments are typically made at or near range minimum.
ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: A non-rotating, 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime as needed. Overtime, when required, is mandatory. Position is classified as essential by the City's Bad Weather Policy, HR 13.0.
Performs essential duties of a Gardener in the Airfield Division of the Aviation Department, City of Corpus Christi. Responsible for planting, transplanting, irrigating, cultivating and weeding a variety of terminal grounds. Also, applying herbicides, insecticides and pesticides for control of weeds and insects. Must operate hand and power driver tools to prune, trim and repair shrubs, plants and trees. Operates push mowers, riding mowers and small garden tractors with attached mower decks. Irrigates landscaped area, flowers, trees and shrubs Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on department equipment. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions to understand simple processes and the routine operations of machines. A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of 6 months of experience and/or working knowledge of practical gardening methods and tools. A valid driver's license is required at time of application and at time of hire. Successful out of state candidate must be able to attain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Will be required to pass a background check and drug screen.
Basis of Rating
Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive". All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing, pursuant to City policy, HR 15.0 Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
