The State Library’s Government and Heritage Library seeks an enthusiastic, motivated, and customer service-oriented team member to directly assist researchers in the library's Genealogy Research Room with daily sign-in and orientation to resources; searching the online catalog and research databases; basic reference questions; and using office and library equipment (computers, photocopiers, printers, microfilm readers/printers). Position creates and maintains genealogy vertical files and signage for the research room; scans barcodes of materials used; shelves and shifts books; and files maps, vertical files, and microfilm reels after use. Photocopies and maintains supply of research guides and training materials; prepares handouts and training packets; prepares, mails, and files acknowledgement letters for patron donations; and compiles visitor counts and use statistics. Manages office and library equipment and supplies (paper, toner, and bulbs) and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions. Position participates in Saturday work schedule rotations with other staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

General knowledge and understanding of library standards and practices related to reference services, library catalogs, and library classification and filing schema. Basic knowledge and skills in library research and resources; online database searching; office and library equipment (computers, copiers, printers, and microfilm reader/printers); and PC applications, including Windows, MS Office, Internet, and email. Strong customer service orientation; verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff and diverse library clientele; and provide basic reference assistance and one-on-one database and equipment instruction for users. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately file and shelve library resources; manage vertical files; and review and verify recorded statistics to ensure accuracy and completeness in library reports. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and exhibit flexibility, cooperation, and dependability required for public service work. Participation in the Saturday work schedule rotation required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
