Advise the Chief of Staff, Clerk of the House, and Parliamentarian/Administrator on legal matters concerning operations and management and compliance with state and federal laws.
Review and advise the Chief of Staff and Clerk of the House on personnel law and policy.
Advise the Speakers Office, Members, and Clerk of the House on ethics issues.
Provide legal counsel to the Chief of Staff and Clerk of the House on provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act.
Update House Personnel Manual.
Coordinate any and all litigation in which the House as an institution is named as a party or has an interest.
Perform other duties as may be determined by the Chief of Staff, Clerk of the House, and Parliamentarian/Administrator.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of Oklahoma State Government; of legal issues unique to government; of the Legislative process; of personnel law and issues concerning management; ethics issues; rule-making procedures; and legal and policy analysis procedures.
Must effectively manage difficult situations while maintaining diplomacy and confidentiality; analyze complex situations and issues; coordinate the work product of others; communicate in both written and oral form; and maintain professional conduct at all times.
Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association. At least 5 years of legal experience required with 3 years experience in state government preferable.
