Essential Functions: · The Department Chair leads the personnel within their department and monitors the effectiveness of the program curriculum and the faculty application of the curriculum to achieve delivery of a superior student learning experience which is interactive, substantive, academically rigorous, and professionally relevant in their classroom, and which results in: achievement of all course-level student learning outcomes for the course by all students who successfully pass the course; steady acquisition of the hidden curriculum skills (digital literacy, information literacy, financial literacy, professionalism, and higher education/career preparedness) by the students; and high student satisfaction and strong instructor teaching effectiveness evaluations and other institutional assessments. The Department Chair manages all aspects within the department to achieve excellence in teaching, including: developing and maintaining curricula that are: driven by the needs of the employers in the communities we serve, lead to meaningful and rewarding careers and opportunities for future advancement, and support our graduates in seeking further higher and continuing education; evaluating program results in regard to student learning outcomes; actively monitoring program retention and providing feedback to Faculty and individualized attention to each student; coordinating necessary tutoring for students if Faculty have identified learning deficits, signs of challenges in the classroom, and other indicators of intentions to withdraw from the institution; periodic review of departmental Faculty to include syllabi, lesson plans, grade book and classroom evaluations to ensure Faculty are closely following the master syllabus and objectives for each course; coordinating the completion of student scheduling and schedule changes with the department each academic term and providing to the Dean of Academic Affairs by established deadline responding to student email, phone calls, and other communications within 24-48 hours; and collaborating with other institutional offices (Career Services; Student Services; Library Services; and others) in planning and delivering instruction.
