CN is seeking a qualified and experienced General Mechanical Supervisor.

The General Mechanical Supervisor
is responsible for managing all mechanical operations day-to-day, including inspection, maintenance, and repair of freight cars and
to ensure the on-time performance of trains and delivery of freight cars as committed to railroad customers
In addition, performance of supervisory staff and hourly employees is to be monitored, analyzed and corrected as required.
Plan workload and resources; monitor inbound trains for freight cars requiring maintenance or repairs and coordinate with Transportation to insure cars are repaired in proper sequence and order.
In a terminal, deploy crews to inspect cars and test air brakes.
Manage car repair on train or on the R.I.P track/in the shop.
Monitor and direct inspection and repair of railcars.
Build safety compliance and improves safety results through regular efficiency testing and safety walkabouts; provides positive and constructive feedback and coaching.
Lead the on-boarding and training activities of new employees.
Manage the supervision of hourly employees and ensure mechanical work is performed within collective bargaining agreements.
Manage day to day issues, along with hourly performance issues including conducting investigations, recommending appropriate discipline to correct performance issues, and responding to grievances.
Manages budget, workforce productivity, manpower, within CN policy and five guiding principles.
Operate in conjunction with appropriate collective bargaining agreements.
Formalize work activity processes and coordinate changes and enhancements with staff and Transportation Department peers.
Develop and implement action plans and goals for Supervisory staff and monitor development to ensure continued improvement.
Maybe required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Work is primarily indoors, but frequently requires field support, which can be in varying types of weather.
Work shifts may vary and will include weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
Will be on call based on territory requirements, including all mainline issues or any other incident or occurrence in responsible zone.
Moderate travel requirements (up to 50% of the time), which may include overnight stays away from home based on territory requirements.
Will be required to respond to all emergency situations.
High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver’s license.
Comprehensive knowledge of car types, components and operation, inspection and repair, yard operating rules and regulatory requirements.
Minimum 5 years experience in railroad Mechanical shopcraft or comparable position, and experience as Mechanical Supervisor.
Good computer skills; especially working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word), SRS.
Associates or Bachelors Degree.
Mechanical Engineering Degree or comparable.
1+ years of supervisory experience
Experience with Lotust Notes, SAP, Cats
