DESCRIPTION

The position of General Steel Superintendent is responsible for the management, training, and development for steel construction related to field personnel, procedures, and practices for the CET projects of Landmark.

DUTIES

Essential Functions:
Ensures individuals are accountable for assigned tasks/projects through active involvement with the construction superintendents and crews
Works to ensure that sufficient plans and preparation have been made to allow quality work to be completed in a safe and efficient manner
Interacts with construction coordinator, superintendent and project management with regard to shipping requirements
Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to drawings, specifications, Company standards, procedures and quality expectations
Monitors costs associated with phase specific aspects of the project
Coordinates and manages the orientation period for new field supervisors
Identifies training requirements for individuals and the company to foster continuous improvement within the company
Assesses the talents of employees based on expectations for various roles. Identifies and facilitates the development of future managers
Focuses on the phase specific development of employees though training and mentoring
Conducts effective employee evaluations by identifying individual contributions, improvement opportunities, setting goals and reinforcing company expectations
Participates in employee selection and retention decisions for the team
Proactive in preventing and resolving issues and complaints with employees
Interacts internally with peers, project and management, safety, accounting, payroll, shipping, purchasing and engineering to ensure a quality product is produced according to schedule and budget
Initiates, implements, delegates and monitors special projects involving construction methods and processes to improve the quality, productivity and safety of the organization
Contributes to and supports company's strategic plan, goals and ideas communicating the core values of the Company through leadership and example
Ensures safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA guidelines are properly followed
Assists with training employees in proper performance of tasks and use of personal protective equipment
Provides detailed documentation for all incidents meetings, inspections and training
Interacts with OSHA on-site as needed, to ensure full compliance
Interacts with construction manger, safety manager and field crews to insure high quality work is produced in a safe, efficient manner
Enforce company expectations for all employees in regards to safety, quality, attendance, attitude, effort, employee relations and responsibility for self and others

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments of personnel.
General Direction: receive very general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is usually quite independent of others; operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Knowledgeable in the following weld techniques: SMAW (flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions), GTAW, MCAW, FCAW gas shielded and self shielded wire - flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions, Arc gouge - flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions, Oxy/acetylene or oxy/propylene torch work
Experience with OSHA and other regulatory requirements and industry standards
Experience with discipline-specific industry standards (API, ASME, AWWA, NACE, ACI, etc.)
Experience directing, training, and motivating field personnel
5 to 10 years of similar experience of progressive responsibility in a supervisory role overseeing field personnel in a similar capacity
Knowledge and experience overseeing multiple jobs
Broad background in heavy construction in order to assist in developing as well as implementing project plans

Knowledgeable in the Following:
SMAW - flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
GTAW
MCAW
GMAW
FCAW gas shielded and self shielded wire - flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
Arc gouge - flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
Oxy/acetylene or oxy/propylene torch work
Understanding or reading of shop drawings or blueprints

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor degree from a four year college or university in construction, engineering, or comparable technical field OR minimum of 10 years of heavy construction experience of progressive responsibility in a supervisory role, or combination of degree and experience
Experience writing and documenting action plans, status reports and assessments
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
Welder Certification preferred
OSHA 10 Hour preferred

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
The employee must regularly apply 75 foot pounds of torque in the assembly, dismantling, erection, and installation of various types of structures, tank jig, scaffolding, etc.
Regularly swings a 10 pound hammer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematic Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
