We are seeking a graduate intern for the Informatics and Analysis group with a focus in genetics, genomics and oncology. Large scale integrated analysis of next generation sequencing data will quickly lead to identification of new targets and biomarkers for treatment of many tumor types. Data generation is moving at a quick pace internally and through public efforts by the Cancer Genome Atlas and Internal Cancer Genome Consortium. We have internalized a number of large public datasets we would like to integrate with our internal tumor sequencing efforts. We would like to use this data to identify driver mutations and mechanisms of drug resistance. Intern would be responsible for identifying and facilitating use of novel methods to analyze DNA and RNA sequencing data and integration of DNA sequencing, gene expression and response to treatment. The intern project may include data-mining activities, methods development or applied research in the areas of Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis or data-mining in the area of Oncology.
This is a paid internship targeted to start in June 2012 for 9 - 11 weeks, whereby a weekly stipend will be provided. Housing is available for those interns meeting the housing distance guideline.
Qualifications
Required:
Applicant must be currently matriculated in a PhD program in Bioinformatics, Genetics or related fields.
Working knowledge of biology, genetics and/or molecular biology required.
Requires experience in any of the following: Intern should be comfortable working in a UNIX environment, knowledge of Matlab, PERL, R or C++ may also be of use as well as SQL or other data-mining skills.
Applicant must be available to work full-time starting in June 2012 for 9-11 weeks
