Piedmont Virginia Community College is searching for a Geology faculty member whose main role will be teaching as well as other activities that support student success. This is a full-time, nine month, restricted state-funded position at the associate instructor level and is eligible for annual renewal. The successful candidate must have a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Geology.

*Work with colleagues to create new courses/curricula and enhance current courses/curricula to meet the needs of students and employers
*Coordinate and work with adjunct faculty
*Teach lecture/lab courses as assigned.
*Teach 18-20 credit hours (combination of lecture and lab) each semester as assigned, which may include day and evening sections, on- and off-campus, weekends, and distance learning technologies
*Maintain 12-19 office hours weekly
*Collaborate with other faculty to prepare and review annually a course of study for each course taught
*Prepare and distribute to all students a syllabus consistent with the course of study for each course taught
*Prepare grade reports for each course taught
*Recommend appropriate texts and support materials for each course taught
*Assist in requisition adequate instructional equipment and supplies
*Regularly review library collection within faculty discipline
*Evaluate course instruction in accordance with established policy
*Prepare textbook orders as required
*Incorporate current and emerging instructional technologies into classroom instruction

Professional development
*Prepare and implement a professional development plan in cooperation with division dean each year
*Maintain a positive, professional relationship with colleagues, supervisors, students, and the community
*Attend faculty workshops

Student Success Activities
*Participate in division and department meetings.
*Mentor and tutor students
*Work with colleagues to promote the retention of students
*Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of the college and the Virginia Community College System

Minimum Qualifications
*A Master's degree in Geology
*Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy and teaching in a community college
*Commitment to students and academic advisement of students
*Evidence of on-going professional development to assure currency in field
*Willingness to be flexible in responding to changing circumstances and needs such as:
-teaching at times, locations, and methodologies other than traditional campus, schedule and methodologies
-exploring and using current and emerging instructional technologies and distance learning technologies

Preferred Qualifications
*PhD in Geology or a PhD in a related field with 18 graduate semester hours in biology.
*Prior experience:
-Teaching at a community college
-Using current electronic instructional technologies (e.g., multimedia, Internet)
-Developing and teaching in distance learning technologies
-Developing courses/curriculum
