PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Solutions Consultant applies strong data and SQL Server acumen to perform a variety of roles in the creation and maintenance of large enterprise wide/global complex solutions. With minimal direction, the Solutions Consultant will develop a strategy that is aligned with other front-office technology efforts to create robust production quality systems and databases to support the Investment Risk function. Systems will be based on prototype risk engines modeled by Risk Analysts. The Solutions Consultant will ensure systems are integrated using proper standards to create supportable solutions. Solutions include user interfaces, database structures, and data loads that address the informational and analytical needs of the business.
This role provides oversight for all phases of the project lifecycle, including research, requirements gathering, database solution design, database solution recommendation, database development, and database system testing. The Solutions Consultant acts as a lead team member in the Investment Front Office team and as a consultant and partner with the Enterprise Risk Group to ensure that all business requirements are understood, documented, and executed upon.
Designs, implements, and maintains optimal SQL Server solutions that address business needs and achieve enterprise wide/global strategic goals that includes analyzing, researching, processing and administering investment data.
Demonstrates understanding of business data solutions in order to design and maintain optimal and extendable data solutions in support of calculation engines, reporting needs and database requirements. Provides consulting and advice on design, applicability, commonality, and usability of SQL database solutions across the Investment Front Office team.
Regularly and independently interacts with business partners of varying associate/management levels to ensure clarity of the problem/opportunity and elicit business data needs. Estimates the size of the effort required to complete complex enterprise wide/global scale database solutions.
Mentors, coaches and provides oversight for work of less experienced Solutions Analysts/ Sr Solutions Analysts, and less experienced associates across the Investment Front Office in database design and best practices.
Reviews requirements for multiple projects and ensures that database solutions are consistent and fall within the standards of the Investment Front Office SQL Server solutions.
Continuously seeks to expand knowledge of Investments practice and theory to create efficiencies and/or mitigate risk via people/process/technology changes for the business.
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 8-10 years professional experience in an analytical position involving data management and collection, modeling and interpretation across complex data sets.
Built or worked on financial datasets
Programming skills (scripting, .Net applications)
Strong understanding of basic Investment Management principles preferred
Prior experience in the Financial Services Industry preferred
College degree and 4 years of related work experience, or
Associate degree and 6 years related work experience, or
High School diploma/equivalent and 8 years related work experience
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2008 and above preferred)
Strong knowledge of relational databases and concepts
Strong SQL skills
Must be able to meet with Investment clients of varying levels to gather, document, and analyze system specifications and requirements, work closely with developers and testers in the fast-paced environment.
Possesses ability to use effective facilitation skills and techniques to effectively influence with clients at various levels in the organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to manage change and cope with complex and ambiguous situations
Is experienced in practical application development and/or client solution delivery
Ability to master complex tasks with minimal supervision
Demonstrated experience providing estimation for moderate to complex efforts
