Operational Responsibilities:
  • Performs SWOT analysis and makes recommendations as necessary to protect Brownells and the Brownell family
  • Works with outside legal counsel as needed to arrive at solutions that ensure Brownells can withstand legal challenges
  • Evaluates Brownells processes and systems for compliance with Department of Commerce, State Department, and BATFE rules and regulations related to the import, export, and domestic shipping for the firearms industry
  • Works with department managers to develop solutions that are compliant with all federal, state and local regulations for the shipping of all firearms related products
  • Responds to legal inquiries and complaints issued by governmental bodies or individual plaintiffs
  • Works with outside attorneys to defend and represent Brownells in legal matters. May participate in writing briefs, discovery process, selecting outside attorneys to represent Brownells in state of jurisdiction, assemble documentation and filing necessary paperwork with appropriate body
  • Ensure audits and reporting programs are up to date with regulatory changes to ensure company compliance
  • Keeps up-to-date on trends and innovations in the field
  • Keeps abreast of changes in regulations and case law applicable to Brownells business and assesses their potential impact
Strategic Responsibilities
  • Provides input into Brownells compliance strategies and philosophies that support the achievement of business goals
  • Advises Brownells management in the compliance implications of new business opportunities and product additions
  • Partners with senior management to set and track compliance objectives of the organization
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Works closely with federal investigators and auditors
  • Works closely and maintains relationships with Brownells third party partners including outside counsel, insurance agents, consultants, shippers, etc.
  • Consults with and counsels Brownells management regarding reporting and compliance opportunities and issues
  • Coordinates with and supports all company facilities in adhering to governmental regulations
  • Maintains a high level of diplomacy for both internal and external customer contact.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Analyzes compliance data, detection and analysis of red flags, and creation of reports from the Brownells database
  • Stays abreast of impending legislation, performs risk analysis and makes recommendations on changes to procedures and policies. May use external legal assistance.
  • Ensures the company's documentation is in compliance with applicable international, federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Maintains compliance with internal control requirements and regulatory requirements

Requirements:
Education, Knowledge and Experience
  • Extensive knowledge of government regulatory compliance related to the firearms industry
  • Demonstrates competence in reading, interpreting and applying laws and regulations
  • JD Law a plus
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience required
  • Legal knowledge as relates to international and domestic sales and/or shipment of gun parts and hazardous materials, sales and/or shipping of restricted parts, etc. required
