Using skills as an experienced Student Services professional, the Graduate Student Services Specialist provides the full range of student services within the School of Natural Sciences including curriculum and advising, recruitment and admissions, graduate employment and financial aid, student conduct, and course scheduling.


• Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training; Master's degree in biology or other scientific field preferred.

• Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques; Five years' experience preferred.

• Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products (particularly MS Excel, MS Access, and MS Outlook) and BANNER, CROPS, and payroll systems.

• Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences, including but not limited to the areas of recruitment, admissions, academic instruction, academic progress, student employment, financial aid, and research conduct.

• Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance, including but not limited to the areas of academic program administration, student employment, and financial aid administration.

• Demonstrated ability in problem identification, reasoning, and development of original ideas to solve problems.

• Interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, students, University staff, and general public. Strong customer service orientation.

• Multicultural competencies and ability to work with diverse populations.
