This position is part of Cargill's AgHorizons business unit. Dedicated to helping farmers prosper, Cargill AgHorizons U.S. helps customers manage their risk and maximize production through grain marketing alternatives, crop insurance, agronomic advice and crop inputs. Part of Cargill's global agricultural supply chain group, Cargill AgHorizons serves customers with a 1,500-member team at more than 100 grain elevators and service centers across the United States.

This position will work with the appropriate AgHorizons region or other Cargill entities to create a list of targeted grain producer customers. These customers may be inside or outside of the Cargill draw area. This person will be responsible for growing and maintaining the customer relationships they develop. The Grain Marketing Advisor will work with customers to create a Farm Business Plan and Profile, an Annual Marketing Plan as well as utilize tracking tools to measure the execution of the marketing plan. The successful candidate will be out with customers 70% of the time.

The Advisor will work out of a home-based office and support a territory surrounding the Owatonna and Faribault area.

Principal Accountabilities:
40% Service a customer base that will grow to 50 accounts or more.

20% Call on prospective customers within a defined geographic region that is determined by the ability to create a block of customers that can be served economically. This person will spend a significant amount of time in the field prospecting and cold calling.

20% Service customers with face-to-face meetings, telephone and email communications. The level of service is determined by the need of the customer.

20% Remain knowledgeable on all Performance Marketing and Cargill Risk Management products and work with the assigned Farm Marketer where applicable to insure they are incorporated into the customer's product mix. In concert with the Farm Marketer, he/she will make joint calls to sell and service current and potential customers.


2 or more years of professional business to business sales experience.

Excellent communications skills with an emphasis on the ability to listen and gain clear understanding and demonstrate empathy.

Must possess or be able to attain Series 3 and Series 30 licenses within 60 days of hire

Demonstrate professional sales skills.

Willingness to make a long term (3 years) commitment to service customers in the chosen area.

Upon accepting this position, Advisor will be required to sign a non-compete agreement

Knowledge of financial aspect of production agriculture including grain futures, options, insurance and an understanding of cash flow.

Solid knowledge of grain production cycles, production methods and production challenges.

Leadership skills.

Enjoys and thrives in the rural environment.

Be comfortable with the technology employed by Cargill AgHorizons Marketing Services.

4 year degree preferred
