The American Enterprise Institute, a public policy research organization, seeks a full-time grant writer within its development department to help communicate AEI’s free enterprise message to prospective and current donors, with the aim of building, cultivating, and maintaining strong donor relationships. The candidate must understand AEI’s mission and have a strong interest in the Institute’s work and public policy.

Responsibilities include drafting and editing proposals, Power Point fundraising presentations, brochures, and reports to individuals, foundations, and corporations, as well as writing supporting marketing documents and other correspondence. In addition, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with scholars and program managers to refine their ideas into projects that can be pitched to prospective funders.

These responsibilities require excellent writing and communication skills, including grammar, usage, tone, and other stylistic features; a strong ability to proof and edit copy; the ability to meet tight deadlines; strategic thinking to determine how to best present material; and a creative, entrepreneurial, and detail-oriented personality. An ideal candidate is an established writer with 5+ years of experience, preferably in development and fundraising work.
