NAMI DuPage announces the opportunity for interested parties to apply for a part-time Grant Writer position at this premier affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Reporting to the Development Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in the agency’s fundraising efforts, focusing on building and stewarding partnerships with institutional funders such as foundations, corporations and municipal governments.

NAMI DuPage has for the past 27 years been dedicated to providing support and education for people affected by mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders. We have made a difference in the lives of thousands of DuPage residents by supporting individuals and families alike. Last year, along with dedicated staff and over 250 volunteers, we served over 14,000 people.

Job Description: Grant Writer

Grant Proposal Management

  • Research new grant prospects
  • Cultivate and steward funder relations
  • Write and submit new and continuing grant requests
  • Manage grant agreements
  • Compile program outcomes
  • Comply with reporting requirements
  • Maintain all grant reports and schedules
Program Planning/Evaluation

  • Work with program directors in creating new funding ideas
  • Work with staff on evaluation tools and measurable outcomes for reporting purposes
  • Maintain tools and methods for data collection and recording results
  • Analyze program statistics
Mandatory Job Qualifications


  • At least 2 years experience in grants field
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or related field
  • Outstanding writing and analytical skills
  • Comfortable with financials and budgets
  • Knowledge of logic model
  • Highly organized and able to maintain multiple grants, research and reporting
  • Able to work under pressure and with regular deadlines
  • Proficiency with MS word and Excel
  • Familiarity with local funders such as United Way, Community Memorial Foundation, etc. a plus
