Reporting to the Associate Director for the Office of Sponsored Projects, the Grants and Contracts Manager manages a portfolio of HGSE principal investigators and areas/departments/centers and is responsible for providing principal investigators with timely information and advice in all aspects of proposal development, proposal submission, and post award management including interpretation of Harvard policies and sponsor guidelines as they relate to necessary approvals, allowable costs, and budget. Works in partnership with principal investigators and others to ensure proposals conform to university policy and funder requirements. Reviews final proposals, including prepared budget, , format, and adherence to sponsor and University guidelines. Responsible for identifying and resolving discrepancies in internal and external requirements and expectations in all facets of proposal submission and award terms and conditions. Reviews federal/non-federal award documents/agreements for compliance with University policy and procedures. Serves as a source of information on fiscal policies and procedures including federal funding regulations, and advises principal investigators and project staff on existing options or alternatives effectively recommending courses of action on fiscal matters. Monitors grants and contracts for the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure expenses are paid according to contract and/or government regulations within budget limit and timelines. Reviews awards for compliance and audit issues. Reviews Harvard University Office for Sponsored Programs actions for accuracy and compliance with HGSE Procedures. Manages document control/work flow for assigned portfolio among the HGSE office and the Harvard University Office for Sponsored Programs and the HGSE Office of Fiscal and Administrative Services.

Administrative Roles

Maintains Office of Sponsored Projects iSite.
Works with Associate Director and Director on special projects as necessary. Basic Qualifications College degree and 3 plus years of direct experience with sponsored research. Familiarity with the federal circulars: A-21, A-110, A-133. Previous experience developing and managing budgets. Broad-based computer skills in Microsoft Suite and electronic grant management systems required. Experience with Grants.gov. NIH policies, procedures, and eCommons; NSF policies, procedures, and FastLane; IES policies and procedures; Federal Acquisition Regulations, and non-federal sponsors is also required.

Additional Qualifications Experience working in sponsored research administration at Harvard or other academic setting strongly preferred. Harvard financial and chart-of-accounts experience preferred. The successful candidate is someone who handles pressure with poise and professionalism in a high volume, deadline driven work environment. Ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality required. Experience working in a fast paced environment.
