DESCRIPTION

Work with marketing colleagues, clients and business partners to design and produce visually compelling, in-brand, effective, timely and on-budget marketing tools to advance the mission and programs of the university and help achieve its goals.

DUTIES

1. Use traditional and electronic methods and tools to create or obtain designs, layouts, concepts, photos, graphics and illustrations for marketing and communications materials and campaigns such as ads, brochures and other collateral, web communications (banner ads, HTML e-mails and e-newsletters), signage, billboards, posters, promotional items, press kits, etc.

2. Produce marketing materials that are in brand, well-designed, high-quality, economical, and well-produced. Duties include pre-press and pre-flight, digital production, insuring quality and integrity of digital files, checking proofs and attending press checks.

3. Serve as expert resource for marketing and communications department when deciding issues of brand hierarchy, create and maintain brand strategies, standards and processes re: visual messaging and execution; educate clients and business partners about how branding works; provide thought leadership for institution-wide branding initiatives.

4. Help identify vendors and freelancers to fill gaps in departmental expertise and manage workload. Examples include printers, illustrators, photographers, designers, copywriters, mail houses and web developers.

5. Insure photographs, graphics and illustrations are compelling, high-quality, well-composed and reflect brand guidelines and messages, best practices and current trends. Strive to visually represent the diversity of NWHSU programs and people.

6. Collaborate with production/traffic manager, marketing strategists, communications staff, clients/business partners, traffic/production manager and senior management to hit deadlines, meet budgets and insure the effectiveness of marketing and communications tools.

7. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Marketing or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in graphic design, marketing, advertising or related fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of graphic design and visual communications tools such as typography, line, shape, texture, space, size, value, and color.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Microsoft Office Suite software. Knowledge of web design tools and practices.
  • Experience with creating logos and brands, and with creating, following and providing leadership on brand guidelines and execution.
  • Familiarity with print, broadcast and multimedia production processes and standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to gracefully juggle multiple tasks and internal and external business partners.
  • Must be self-motivated and organized, have a strong work ethic and high energy. We're seeking a team player able to work both independently and in a group.
  • Commitment to find creative and culturally sensitive ways to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, thrive on change, and demonstrate results.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Knowledge to how to work with a creative team (for example, copywriters, illustrators and/or photographers, art directors or creative directors).
  • Experience in higher education, health or nonprofit settings.
