Under the direction of the Director, Creative Services the Graphic Designer is responsible for designing marketing materials (print and web) for the following areas: Programs and exhibit promotions, museum signage, web site banners animation, internal communications, relationship marketing, public relations, and events. These materials will be used to communicate directly with museum guests and supporters and enhance their overall experience in the museum and with the brand.
Responsibilities or Duties
Design assigned print and web materials that enhance the brand and the overall guest and supporter experience. Use templates and archived designs as appropriate.
Understand and follow the brand guidelines.
Print designs such as signs, banners, exhibit text and cut and trim and as needed.
Install new and replacement signage in the museum lobby and exhibit areas.
Prepare and install signage for both onsite and offsite events and signature programs.
Develop and maintain electronic templates, maintain project/brand portfolio, and archive files for assigned jobs.
Work from production schedules and status to manage time and prioritize daily workload. Ensure work is completed on time.
Schedule support of on-going/updated projects through Director of Creative Services.
Work with vendors as assigned.
Related duties as assigned.
Requirements or Key Qualifications
BA or BFA in graphic design.
3-5 years experience working in advertising or design studio environment.
Proven ability to produce work and find solutions within budget.
Proven hands-on Apple Mac work with responsibility for final mechanicals and creative production support.
Operational proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop.
Background in brand identity, typography, comps, and digital pre-press.
Attention to detail is essential.
Must be able to use computer and artist’ tools (X-Acto knife, straight edge, etc.).
Basic understanding of web site principals and digital displays(banner animation, RGB color process, image file creation and compression, screen legibility, etc.).
Able to identify patterns and branding with the ability to incorporate templates and archived designs.
Ability to respond effectively and appropriately to creative feedback.
Ability to sustain professional demeanor despite unscheduled work, revisions and short timetables.
Experience working with images in design. Knowledge and experience with photography a plus.
