Nutrition Services Department
I. Position Summary:
Prepares hot sandwiches and short order items at cafeteria grill station. Serves and merchandises grill products in an attractive and palatable manner adhering to portion control guidelines. Stock area with supplies utilized for grill service. Responsible for the setup and preparation of all fresh items and condiments and the preparation and cleanliness of the grill area. Maintains high standards of sanitation, organization, safe work habits, and operation and care of equipment.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Cafeteria Supervisor, Assistant Director,
Department Director, Chief Clinical Dietitian and Supervisors
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Routinely interfaces with other hospital
personnel and co-workers requiring courtesy, tact and cooperation
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE Advantage” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Assumes the responsibility for hot food set up and service.
F. Prepare menu boards and other “special” signs as appropriate.
G. Knows basic food preparation techniques to allow accurate preparation and service of food.
H. Assumes the responsibility for the sanitation of equipment and work areas.
I. Assumes the responsibility for daily inventory of supplies.
J. Interacts on a daily basis with visitors and employees.
IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. Grill area is setup for service 15 minutes prior to service.
B. All foods are served with correct portion size by use of correct utensils, scales, and portion control list.
C. Maintains quality control of all foods served via routine temperature checks.
D. Menu boards and “Special of the Day” signs are prepared for display at least 30 minutes prior to service with correct prices listed 100% accurate.
E. Foods are prepared according to Departmental Standards and Health Codes.
F. Ability to answer basic customer questions regarding menu product and ingredient usage.
G. Equipment and work areas maintained according to Departmental Standards and Health Codes.
H. Filling list of inventory par, and informs supervisor when an item is not available.
I. Rotates stock to ensure freshness.
J. Shows courtesy and tact when dealing with hospital employees and visitors.
High School diploma preferred or equivalent experience and education.
B. Training and Experience:
Previous short order cook required or 1 plus years as cafeteria server required.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work is of moderate demand, continuous standing and walking; lifting of supplies and moving equipment some of the time. Hours may be irregular to accommodate cafeteria schedules.
