Under the direction of the assigned Supervisor, participate as a member of a crew and skillfully perform the full range of grounds maintenance duties; including performing routine pool maintenance activities; participating in the lay-out and preparation of athletic fields and athletic equipment and install and maintain irrigation systems.
Grounds Maintenance Worker II incumbents perform the full range of skilled grounds maintenance responsibilities, maintain the high school pool facility . Grounds Maintenance Worker I incumbents perform semi-skilled grounds maintenance duties involving mowing and trimming, installing and maintaining irrigation systems and preparing athletic fields for events. Assist with set up for athletic events and lining athletic fields.
Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or equivalent including three years of increasingly responsible grounds maintenance experience performing the full range of grounds maintenance duties, including one year of irrigation system maintenance experience. Experience in basic pool maintenance is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license. Must qualify for a Man Lift Certificate within six (6) months in this classification to operate the man lift per Cal-OSHA standards.
Skillfully perform the full range of grounds maintenance duties; mow, edge, trim and rake lawns and athletic fields; plant, cultivate and water lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers; spray herbicide to control weeds; weed fence lines, wall bases, planters and flower beds. E
Perform routine pool maintenance activities at the District pool site; adjust filtration and chemical feeder pumps and gauges; perform pool water chemical tests to determine water quality; add chemicals to obtain proper water chemistry; sweep pool and backwash filtration systems; perform minor servicing, repair and maintenance to pool equipment and filtration system as directed. Communicate with school personnel and departments regarding pool maintenance or athletic equipment and field preparation needs; oversee and participate in the preparation of athletic fields as necessary. E
Provide a variety of grounds maintenance support services for the District and school sites such as athletic and grounds maintenance activities. E
Prune trees, plants and shrubs; extract trees and shrubs as necessary; operate a lift vehicle to trim tall trees in a safe manner; reseed, fertilize and renovate lawns and fields as necessary. E
Install and maintain irrigation systems. E
Fertilize lawns and cultivate flower beds; interpret fertilizer labels, cautions and application instructions; assure safe handling and applications. E
Operate a variety of power and hand tools and light motorized equipment including trucks, tractors, skip loader, gang mowers, edgers, weedeaters, sprayers, jack hammers, trimmers, chain saws, blowers and others. E
Assist with the maintenance of athletic fields; line and number athletic fields such as football, baseball, soccer and track; remove and replace worn sod on fields; drag clay on infields and track.
Set up athletic equipment for competition; set goal posts, scoreboards and other related equipment for daytime/nighttime events.
Perform routine maintenance on a variety of grounds maintenance equipment such as oil changes, lubrication, sharpen and balance mower blades, replace filters, belts and cables as necessary.
Apply herbicides and pesticides as needed; mix and apply chemicals according to established procedures.
Load trucks with trimmings and trash and haul to appropriate location for disposal.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Perform skilled grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging and weeding.
Prioritize and schedule work on school grounds and athletic fields.

Mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, and cultivate lawns, flower beds, athletic
fields and other landscaped areas.
Take chlorine and chemical readings at District pool site as required.
Perform general maintenance of pool equipment as required.
Perform moderate to heavy physical labor.
Operate a variety of power and hand tools and light motorized equipment including trucks, tractors, skip loader, gang mowers, edgers, weedeaters, sprayers, jack hammers, trimmers, chain saws, blowers and others.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Work cooperatively with others.
Interpret fertilizer and chemical labels, cautions and application instructions.
Maintain and repair sprinklers and watering systems.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Maintain routine records of pool and grounds maintenance activities and equipment.
