Under general supervision of Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Groundskeeper will perform general and specific grounds keeping work assignments. All work will be performed in a manner that meets ICF-MR standards, DADS and Richmond State School policy. Duties will include, but are not limited to: mowing, trimming, pruning, picking up trash, landscaping, leveling, blading, drainage, caring for and assisting in the repair and preventive maintenance of tools and equipment. Moving equipment and furniture. At certain times, other general maintenance duties may be assigned. Must be physically able to lift 80 pounds unassisted and withstand long periods of time working in extreme weather. Hours may periodically be adjusted to accomplish special projects and assignments. May assign work and supervise others. Overtime hours including after hours, weekends, and on holidays may be required based on the need of the business necessity.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Duties will include but are not limited to: mowing, edging, trimming weeds, hedges, trees; removing dead trees and hedges. Providing proper drainage by digging/trenching ditches and keeping them clean. Filling ruts and potholes as needed. Keeping grounds in a sightly condition by picking up trash, limbs and other debris. 65% Providing proper care for equipment and tools, washing/ cleaning, sharpening, lubricating after use to keep them in good operating condition. 15% Proper use of tools, equipment and chemicals to ensure personnel and client safety. 10% Other duties as assigned but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Ability, Knowledge in scheduling and maintaining various types of medium powered equipment (diesel) and small gasoline powered equipment related to ground equipment. Ability to use computer. Ability to read, write, and calculate simple mathmatical problems. Knowledge of planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass; hand and power tools, motorized commercial equipment. Be familiar of hazards and safety precautions necessary in general labor and maintenance work. Skill in the use of grounds keeping hand tools and equipment; in the operation of motorized and gas operated equipment such as tractors, mowers, edger’s, chain saws, hedge trimmers, self-propelled sweeper/vacuums, paint striping machines, and sprinkler systems; in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks and parking lots; and in the maintenance and repair of power lawn mowers, and large grounds equipment.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Valid Texas driver's license, and continued maintenance of same.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Ability to operate tractor, backhoe, implements and small gasoline powered equipment related to groundskeepers duties.
