As a Recreation Aide for Community Centers, excellent communication skills and the ability to provide superb customer service is key. This position requires an ability to perform a full range of duties as assigned, and the ability to function independently and the ability to enforce policies and procedures. Independent judgment is requiredto identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, interpret precedents, and adopt standard methods or practices to meet variations in facts and/or conditions. Candidates should have experience in working with the public, and should be friendly, courteous, punctual, and reliable.
Carry out a wide variety daily operational tasks in support of Community Centers operations including: set-up and tear down of rooms for recreation programs, meetings and private parties; assist customers with class registrations and facility rentals; direct open play sessions and collect fees; settle minor disputes among children and/ or adults; maintain records and logs; be responsible for the care and maintenance of athletic fields and facilities.
In addition to having the necessary knowledge and communication skills to provide excellent customer service, the following qualifications are required: possess excellent customer service and communication skills; demonstrate exceptional attention to detail; demonstrate ability to provide the necessary support in record keeping and report preparation; competence in computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is desired; must be able to take direction as well as have the ability to take initiative; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; requires week day morning availability and occasional evenings and weekend hours; understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to evaluate emergency situations and act decisively and effectively to resolve them; communicate clearly, concisely, both orally and in writing; knowledgeable of modern office procedure, methods and equipment including; must be able to lift 50lbs.
Experience & Education:
Must have high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Some college work preferred
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or abilty to obtain, a valid Class C Driver License
- Possession of, or abiltiy to obtain CPR and first aid certification
Experience working with the public
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, and lift 50lbs. +; exposure to outdoors; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
All staff members must be available to work weekends, holidays and/or special events as needed. Must provide own transportation. Must meet State of California tuberculosis test and fingerprinting requirements; must have valid California State Driver’s License and be over 18 years of age. *Part-time employee cannot exceed 1,000 total hours worked in one fiscal year.
